Crossfire interview..

The first ever Belgian producer in drum and bass to get released on a UK label is young Flemish DJ/producer Crossfire, who put his first releases out on labels DSCI4 and 1210. He has started his own imprint, called Crossfire Recordings, which is one of the first labels to be started up in Belgium.

Crossfire is definitely one to watch! Read more about him as Lotus from Hydra poses the questions.

Who is the artist/DJ that's most influenced you?

I personally think Bad Company most influenced me, ‘cause I started listening to drum and bass because of their awesome tunes. Ram, Virus, and Cause 4 Concern also influenced me very much I think…

What kind of tunes would you like to be making in 10 years time?

Time will tell... I’d like to make some techno, or hip hop, if I can find a good hip hop MC. But that doesn't mean I'll quit making drum and bass. D&B will always come in first place. Making and listening to music is an addiction for me, and I can't resist!

What releases have you got forthcoming?

I’ve got some forthcoming tunes on my own imprint, Crossfire Recordings, called Armada and Camouflage (CF002). Also I’ve done a VIP remix of Hydra... Also there are three tunes coming out on another Belgian label, Drop on Request Recordings, called Stryker, Transformer and Darkstar. Plus I have some new tunes, Northern Lightz 2, Crystal Lake, and The Awakening that I have to send to some labels when I'm not too lazy!

How did you and your partner Goodfella get together and start DJing and making music?

We met each other at a D&B party here in Belgium, through a friend of mine who was at school with him. When we bought vinyl in the record shop, we always bought the same kind of tunes that came out. So I had the feeling we had to hook up with each other, and he came down to my place, we span some tunes, played some cards, had some laughs… and we decided to start spinning with each other. I think he's one of Belgian's finest DJs, so I can learn from him, and he wants to start with producing now, so he can learn some stuff from me too!

Is your label the first one to put out only D&B in Belgium?

I don't know the exact history of Belgian D&B labels - so don't shoot me on this one...
The only thing I do know, is that I'm the first Belgian D&B producer that got a deal on UK labels (dsci4 & 1210). Why I do my own label here, is it’s the only way I can put out what I like and when I want, just doing my thing, if you like it or not. Also I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported me from in the beginning
