"The Texas production team of arQer & Realtime has caught the attention of producers and labels abroad. An eclectic fusion of d&b with a distinctive slant, the pair’s latest venture has them taking the DIY approach with their d&b imprint Monkey Bizness (est. 2002. Things are looking good so far for these professional musicians, music educators, label mates, and lifelong friends.
The musically accomplished twosome better known as Mark “arQer” Garlitos and Douglas “Realtime” Maake have known each other since the second grade, by which time Mark would be introduced to the piano by his parents then soon after they would both take up drums. Texas born, Filipino-American Garlitos describes his fascination, “Music makes you feel a certain way and I wanted to emulate that.” Meanwhile, Maake cites MTV’s first broadcast in the early ‘80s and the clean productions of New Order and Depeche Mode as his electronic inspiration. By the mid-90s, music scholarships would cast one off to Kansas City to develop their percussion skills and the other to Cleveland to experience a musical revolution. Now their primary goal is to have that creative outlet to facilitate their releases quickly.
In the spring of 2003, arQer & Realtime released “Lucid Dream/Be Wit U,” their debut off Monkey Bizness, succinctly with the release of “Battery” on Gain. And more prime tunes are promised to come from this dynamic d&b duo. Also in the works is a sister label, Medusa, that is structured as an experimental label, which will sign other producers and offer A&R development. In the meantime, they Web cast a d&b live, weekly mix show on and "
