Alien Pimp – Bucharest, Romania

experience: Producer since 1997, Dj since 2000

style: Drum’n’Bass

Present in the musical life of Romania first as a radio DJ and journalist since the early age of 14 (no typo, it’s for real!), Alien Pimp is the less known founder of the most acclaimed dance act in Romania in the 90’s, NSK, in 1996. After a first gig, he left the group for a solo career, starting 2 projects: Alien Pimp and Sonic Tonic. In the early years he approached almost all styles of electronic dance music, from gabber to garage, from big beat to d’n’b. Fast enough, in 1998 Alien Pimp won first prize at ASSOS Music New Talent Festival, a national competition for the electronic dance music producers and since then he played at all the major festivals in the country, and at countless club parties.
In the last couple of years things cleared out for him: as Alien Pimp he’s dj-ing and producing drum’n’bass and under the Sonic Tonic alias he produces downtempo music. As well, in 2004 he founded another downtempo act, WeAreNotSure, together with the sensational young producer Silent Strike and a very gifted female vocal from Norway, Gunhill.
As a producer, he has more than 10 tracks and remixes released on several Romanian compilations, and he produced the unanimously acclaimed Bucharest Chills & Thrills compilation in 2004. As well, in 2004 he started building SoundKraft Records, a label, booking & management company focused on promoting East-european d’n’b & breakbeat artists. SKR awaits it’s first release in march 2005, a breaks & d’n’b compilation that will prove sun raises from the East.
In 2002 and 2004 he was member of the jury at the Eastern-European Discoveries national contest organised by Radio France Internationale for the electronic dance music talents.
As a Dj, Alien Pimp started to play for free in 2000 at the Web Club, which is the biggest suporter of the electronic dance music in Bucharest. After a few unexpectedly successful parties, he was offered a residency there that he has never abandoned untill present time. He began with a very eclectic selection of styles, but now he’s focused on d’n’b. Since then, he has constantly played in Bucharest (had 2 more residencies) and across Romania, but as well at the Sziget Festival in Budapest 2003 and in the Republic of Moldavia. His d’n’b set may go from oldschool d’n’b to clownstep or techy/trancy dnb In his sets, apart from vinyl, he uses loads of hi-quality demos or local cd releases which never had the chance to meet a vinyl press.

Cypher is a 21-year old breakbeat DJ who proved in 2004 to be one of the best upcoming local DJ’s. His debut as a DJ took place in January 2004 in Bucharest, alongside Rolli Breaker, established Romanian nu-school breaks DJ.
Since then, he has played at a variety of events across the country, he organised three parties in Bucharest and started writing for an online music magazine (). He has been invited twice to Selectro (one of the few nationwide electronic music radio show in Romania), and he has done exclusive mixes for Selectro and understand.ro (one of the most prominent Romanian clubbing websites). He has also established a crew/non-profit asociation entitled Foo Events, whose aim is to expand and enrich the nu-breaks/dnb scene by organising events and promoting various DJ's and artists.
He plays breaks with emphasis on high bpm, (138+), high-energy funky/heavy electro tracks. The most requested d'n'b DJ from Minsk who also produces his own musiñ and spins vinyl? Walder is the name.
At his first gig, in December 2002, at the 3d System Electronic Madness festival, he played his own music, as everyone does at these festivals since their very beginning. But Walder was also one of the first producers who started at System Electronic Madness to also try DJing.
Back then his stuff was mostly dark and heavy, but still most of his sets would feature tracks by Paul B, Noisia, Teebee, Subwave or Panacea. The most plates in his bag come from the labels like:
DSCI4, Subtitles, Renegade Hardware, Nerve, Armada, Hospital, Shadow Law, s2z.
June 2004 already saw him to be the only d'n'b DJ from Minsk to play at the biggest yearly open air event, the key night of the clubbing summer in Minsk.
A resident of most events organized by Electrokids promo crew, he is also often requested to spin at the events organized by other promo-groups in Minsk, to say nothing about his gigs in other big cities in Belarus and Ukraine.
As a producer, Walder got his tracks featured on 2 local compilations, and on the forthcoming Eastern Sound Architects, from the Romanian label SoundKraft.
