Lena Popova/ russia
Lena Popova is the first girl who became a Dj in Russia. Since the summer of 1994 she plays vinyl. She started as a resident of the first Russian Techno club “Tonnel”. This club was famous for being the main place of the
electronic dance music scene. Since 1994, and up to the moment of the tragic closing of the above-mentioned club, Lena had been holding faithfully the banner of the club, where she worked as the art-director for the last two years. To the joy of party-goers, she and Alexey Haas are preparing the rebirth of the club.
Most people associate the name of this female dj with the hard rhythm of Techno. Lena plays also different variations of Techno, e.g. Electro. Recently Lena’s preference is mostly given to Scandinavian and English experimental Techno sound. Partly thanks to Lena, Saint-Petersburg is gaining reputation as Russia’s capital for techno-music.
Lena was a resident of an unique independent radio station named “Port FM”. She also conducted two author’s programs there. The first program was “Dynamite”. It was directed to shed light on cultural events not only in the modern club culture, but also in fashion events throughout world, modern art and so on. The second program that Lena conducted was named “A sleeping hour”.
It represented a harmonious mix of fairy tales of different cultures all over the world in different periods of time and modern electronic experimental music. She also takes part in organizing parties, that have become a good tradition in Saint-Petersburg: located in the most unexpected places of industrial districts and famous for the hard style of music.
Today Lena plays at partys and festivals all over the Russia and Europe.
