Smile

Simon/off - Take it Back EP (disko404 Records)

A1 Take it Back
B1 Just To
B2 Just To (Bass Clef Remix)

disko404 is a long-established promotions crew based in Graz, Austria, whose renowned monthly events are all about celebrating the bass in dubstep, funky, house, juke, grime, hip hop, electro, and experimental sounds.
Earlier this year they branched out as a record label, launching with a well-received split EP from Sun People & Franjazzco.

Their second release features two new tunes by Sun People’s Simon/off as well as a splendid remix by Bass Clef. Simon/off has already stirred international attention with releases on renowned labels such as Immerse Records or Phuture Shock Musik.

‘Take It Back’ puts together nicely cut-up vocals, a classy bassline and pure 4x4 pressure, bringing back sweet memories of legendary UKG old-school grooves from the early ‘00s. On the flip, ‘Just To’ won't stop firing toms, hats and rim-shots into the air, leaving just enough space for a few carefully interspersed samples, essentially jazz and voice.

For his remix, Bass Clef picks up the vocal as well as a tiny bit of that jazz vibe, before twisting it up in a dirty beat full of verve and grime.

Early support comes from Scratcha DVA (Hyperdub), Brackles (Rinse FM), Phon.o (50Weapons), Simbad (Raw Fusion), Martin Kemp (Blunted Robots) Bunzer0 (Sub FM) and Roko (Sub fm)

Mastered at Optimum, Bristol, UK

Juno says:
Forward-thinking Austrian bass label Disko404 invite Simon/Off on board for some party-minded fun. A unique blend of garage, house and acid, "Take It Back" pumps with a Euro groove, jacks with a UKG sexiness and, thanks largely to the Todd Edwards style cut up vocal, swings with a US sassiness. "Just To" is vaguely more trad-garage but laced with a barbed Radioactive Man style attitude. The faultless Bass Clef finishes the set with a fractured remix that pitches the tempo and tone down to a level so rude it would make an angry drunk nun blush.

Boomkat says:
Deft, diverse garage and cut-up juke styles on the Graz-bassed disko404 imprint, backed with a fine Bass Clef remix. On 'Take It Back' Simon/off exhibits a subtle grasp of US garage dynamics akin to Akufen's take on Todd Edwards, contrasting sharply with the kinetic, bashy juke rhythms and glitching electronics of ''Just To'. Bass Clef seals the deal with a wider sounding remix diffusion, gutting it thru his analogue boxes until the elements are flung out on cosmic dubstep trajectories.

we hope you like the tunes!!

next 12" will be from Broken Beat / Drum&Bass legend Colin Lindo aka Nubian Mindz aka Alpaha Omega - watch out !
