Das 2010 in New York entstandene Dub Champions Festival kommt nach Wien! Jahrhunderts.

The second annual Dub Champions Festival in Europe begins by returning Thursday 6 February 2014 to Fluc Wanne in Vienna with future sounds of dub from two contrasting DJ producers: Radikal Guru hailing from Poland is an artist who from the early days of dubstep has maintained a strong connection to Jamaican dub reggae roots in his electronic productions while Vienna's Ulrich Troyer will present a unique audio and video performance that explores high tech electronic dub drawing on the pulse of bass music as well as ambient and techno sounds. The Raw Vienna DJ & VJ crew, known for their long running party celebrating this wide range of musical genres, will elaborate on these themese musically as well as visually, transforming the subterranean atmoshphere of Fluc Wanne with stacks of projectors, dozens of video projections screens, and innovative opticals.

Dub Champions Festival is approaching 4 years running, founded in NYC by Emch from Subatomic Sound and has featured legendary sound revolutionaries from the reggae roots to the future bass music: Scientist & The Roots Radics (performing "Curse of the Vampires" live with Johnny Osbourne), Lee Scratch Perry & Subatomic Sound System, Adrian Sherwood, Kode9, Clive Chin, Sherwood & Pinch (US debut), Mad Professor, Disrupt (Jahtari), Appleblim, Addis Pablo, Dre Skull, Francois K, Jahdan Blakkamoore, Ticklah, Liondub, Badawi, Dr. Israel, Spy From Cairo and many more from around the globe. The festival has takes place in the USA in New York City, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Boston and in Europe in Vienna, this year in Amsterdam, and more cities soon come. Dub music to the world.

Check some of the reports from past festivals...

Jamaica's Gleaner

Kudos to DJ Emch and Subatomic for presenting the week long New York City Dub Champions Festival over a five day period. The five day excursion into the ‘international musical phenomenon called dub’ was well supported and exposed dub to whole new audience. Emch and many of those associated with the festival are non Jamaicans but their love and respect for the art form and the culture of Jamaica is unquestionable. The Roots Radics ensemble was legendary, ripping it on stage. The audience comprised of mostly Europeans shouted and waved their hands in ecstasy as the hard driving sounds of dub filled the space.

MTV

"Dub will have its day in NYC this week when the Dub Champions Festival breaks out across the city. Presented by New York’s own Subatomic Sound label and sound system, the festival will celebrate dub and all its mutant descendants, with Subatomic Sound backing up the legendary Lee “Scratch” Perry and UK dubstep ******* Kode9 headlining a night at Cielo. There will even be a master class taught by the great Clive Chin."

LARGE UP

"After hearing and witnessing probably the best event I have attended in the past year, I can definitely say it was a Subatomic Sound event in more ways than one... It was a bloodfire show. Roots Radics, with Scientist at the control tower (engineers booth), dropped some serious dubs, for the Dub Champions Festival"

BOOMSHOTS

"On the second of five nights at this year’s Dub Champion Festival, the iconic dub chemist Scientist (seen above in NYC, Fall 1988) and dub innovators the Roots Radics band blessed the stage and, joined by the great reggae and dancehall vocalist Johnny Osbourne, put on a show for the ages. Before the concert even began, the energy was palpable throughout the subterranean building as anticipation was through the roof. This was the kind of reggae show that crossed, and then collapsed, the Time-Space continuum by bringing out veterans and old timers, alongside a more current regime of reggae aficionados and dubheads."

Fusicology

If you’re a fan of dub music, this is about as major as it can get short of the simultaneous resurrection of both Augustus Pablo and King Tubby. Seriously, we already know of people flying in to NYC all the way from California just for the night.
