Hoob - Tekksteppa / Obsession 6 [BLUSLTD005]

HOOB is an Austrian Drum & Bass producer that the masses should definitely keep an eye on. As silly as his character is (his MySpace user name is ‘drumandbasssucks), the man has been spitting out topnotch releases on some of the scene’s most diverse labels, including Point Audio, Abducted Records, and High Tension. He claims to make so-called “uplifting drum ‘n bass,” but we at Blu Saphir Limited see his sound as a smorgasbord of rugged textures, deep soundscapes and brilliant production.

Tekksteppa is a broody, floor stormer that can be compared to the sound of Ed Rush & Optical’s “The Creeps.” Imagine walking down a long corridor as the opening sequence plays. Drums advance. Reverberating bass makes way to a low bass frequency before the drop hits. If you remember DJ Fresh’s older classic, Signal and took a liking to it, checking this track out is a must!

B. OBSESSION 6:

Easily reminiscent of the atmospheric tracks of the early to mid-nineties, the genesis of OBSESSION introduces a technoid soundscape, followed by whirring effects, blissful Rhodes piano pads, and filtered drums. As kicks lace the build up, a fury of neuro tech sounds hit the floor. In this alien-esque stormer, Raiden’s old tracks come to mind. Once through the encounter, Hoob brings back the deepness, before a second drop annihilates everything it touches.
